In 1996, Dr. Beck Weathers climbed Mount Everest. A vicious storm interrupted his expedition and the Preston Hollow pathologist was left stranded and injured.

Following his rescue, Weathers was flown to Medical City on Forest Lane, the same hospital where he works today. There, his colleagues were forced to amputate his right hand, left fingers and left thumb.

The doctor’s recovery story is inspiring, to say the least, and that fact has not been lost on Hollywood. “Everest,” a recently released film starring Jake Gyllenhaal, Keira Knightly, Josh Brolin and other big names, is based on his harrowing journey. The movie hits theaters in our neighborhood tomorrow. Worth a trip to AMC, don’t you think?
