Lamplighter students welcomed a very special guest yesterday: Dr. Lee Berger, the scientist who discovered Homo Naledi. This was Berger’s first speaking engagement since making headlines. His lecture at the Perot Museum last night became his second.

We can thank Hockaday grad Lyda Hill for bringing Berger to our neighborhood. Much of his research was supported by her foundation. Hill stopped by Lamplighter during Berger’s talk to say hello. The scientist thanked her for being “a risk taker” and believing in his expedition while it was still in its infancy.

Before leaving, Berger gave Lamplighter the very first skull cast of the Homo Naledi species. Judging by the above photos, the kids were totally wowed.
