Need a dress for the weekend? Stop by Free People’s new space in NorthPark Center. The store will host a grand opening event this Friday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. replete with refreshments, giveaways and makeup tutorials.

Have your children put their engineering skills to the test November 7 at the Park Forest Branch Library. Beginning at 2:00 p.m., teams of 2 to 4 kids will create balloon-powered cars out of provided materials. The first vehicle to carry pennies across the finish line receives a prize. Registration is open to students in grades 4-10. Call Aimée van Heyst at 214.670.6333 as soon as possible to secure a spot for your little mechanic.

Grocery shopping can be a drab, but the Whole Foods on Preston and Forest will liven things up this Saturday with live music. Stock up on produce and paper towels while enjoying a performance by The Tu-Tones, “Texas’ favorite two-man band, featuring Stompin’ Bill Johnston and Mr. 18K Bob Wingate,” from noon to 4:00 p.m.
