The VanSickle Family Law Clinic at SMU’s Dedman School of Law welcomes its first cohort of students next month. They’ll study “divorce, child custody, possession and access, paternity, modifications, enforcement actions, child and spousal support, and adoption.”

“The Clinic will provide much-needed assistance to unrepresented family law litigants in our community,” Chante Prox, director of the VanSickle Family Law Clinic, says. “It simultaneously will afford student attorneys a phenomenal opportunity to develop practical lawyer skills and advance their emotional intelligence through reflection, self-assessment and client interactions.”

The new department has secured 15 of the 20-30 commitments it needs to operate for five years — a starting goal. Texas Bar Foundation provided the most recent grant of $25,000.
