The Preston Center Task Force held a meeting on Feb. 16 and it was a long one.
“It’s going to be a lengthy meeting,” Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates acknowledged at the start. “Some of the Task Force members brought snacks.”
A representative from Kimley-Horn began by presenting the findings of a weeklong parking study, conducted in Preston Center from Jan. 24-30. From noon to 1 p.m., during the dates of the study, there was a “70% occupancy overall” and the parking deck was “just over 80% full.” Cars were seen cruising for spots and almost no spaces were available on-street level.
Kimley-Horn then provided possible solutions by taking into account such factors as total development acreage, land use mix, office and retail square footage and and infill and redevelopment acreage. To view some of the potential “development scenrios” click here.
After taking it all in, the task force decided it should meet again before hosting a public open house. The next meeting will be held at Walnut Hill Recreation Center on March 22 at 6 p.m. While all community members are invited to attend, “these meetings are not for public input,” Gates stated in an email. An open house will eventually be held, but the date is still pending. We’ll keep you posted.
