Nancy Smith, an active member of the Preston Hollow community, recently published her fifth book, “Dallas Celebrity in the Glamorous 1980s Era of Ronald and Nancy Reagan.”

This was the decade stars like Elizabeth Taylor, Frank Sinatra and Queen Elizabeth II frequently visited our city, says Smith. The Dallas Arts District was born and charity galas became increasingly opulent. As a former society columnist for The Dallas Morning News, the author was right in the thick of it all.

Smith attended the 1984 Republican Convention in Dallas as a reporter, so there’s information about that in the book as well. “The city was rebuilt with new skyscrapers and hotels in anticipation of the Convention,” she told us in an email.

In addition to authoring books, Smith deals in antiques. She owns Preston Royal Consignments & Appraisals in the Preston Royal Southwest Shopping Center.
