When we last spoke with Patricia Vermillion, it was to discuss her first children’s book, “Texas Chili? Oh My!” The Lamplighter School librarian has since published a second.

“Hound Dawg” hit shelves in 2015 but the modern retelling of “The Little Red Hen” is still getting tons of attention. Just a couple weeks ago, for instance, Vermillion read the tale to a group of students at Sudie Williams Elementary. (As evidenced in the photo above, she was accompanied by the book’s furry protagonist.) After the reading, Vermillion discussed her writing process with attendees.

The event was facilitated by Lamplighter’s partnership with Commit! a nonprofit dedicated to supporting DISD students.

“The partnership is intricately connected to Lamplighter’s literacy program,” Dr. Joan Hill, Lamplighter’s head of school, says. “Mrs. Vermillion’s appearance at Sudie Williams, among other related initiatives reinforces our commitment to the program.”
