Update: We asked the police if the victim in this case would also be charged with a crime, considering the reported exchange of gunfire from two parties, which, as far as we can tell, put the public at risk. Police spokesperson Melinda Gutierrez says that “the detectives are still investigating this offense and at this time that has not been determined. With the lack of the suspect to speak to, our detectives only have one side of the story. It is not known if either the suspect or the victim were acting in self-defense.”

Dallas police detectives have gathered some clues related to a shooting last Sunday outside NorthPark Center and are seeking public assistance in tracking down a suspect.

At the time, we reported that the violence was the result of a “verbal dispute” had outside the mall:

Two men were seen arguing outside the mall about 3:30 p.m., when both pulled out guns. Eventually, the suspect, described as a black man in his late 20s with a short afro, shot and injured the victim, whose identity has not been released. The victim was taken to Presbyterian Hospital, his condition was not immediately known.NorthPark Boulevard was briefly shut down as police worked the scene. The mall has been more focused on security in recent months following several crimes, the most disturbing of which left a mom pepper-sprayed after putting her child in a carseat.

The suspect description remains about the same, though police today released a few more details.

“… black male in his late 20s, possibly 6 feet tall, heavyset, with a short afro … last seen driving a newer, possibly 2015 or 2016, burgundy Chrysler 300 with chrome trim, chrome wheels, dark tint, and a customized chrome grille that looks similar to grilles that are on Bentley Motor Cars.”

Police also believe that the suspect might have been injured in the shoot out.

“… the victim and an unknown suspect exchanged gunfire. During the gunfire exchange the victim was struck once. It is unknown if the suspect was injured during the exchange,” according to a written statement from police.

I have inquired as to whether the victim in this case will also be charged with a crime, considering the exchange of gunfire. I’ll update the post as we learn more.
