The District 13 Youth Commissioner attends Hockaday

Mary Orsak

Oh, the scandal! Council member Jennifer Staubach Gates is an Ursuline grad, but her Youth Commission appointee is a Hockaday girl. To be fair, Mary Orsak’s resume sounds pretty impossible to resist.

She’s involved in tons of extracurriculars — newspaper, Latin Club, Texas Junior Classical League, etc. — and she’s even writing a children’s book. Additionally, the teen runs Story Power Inc., a non-profit she started in an attempt to expose young girls to literature with female protagonists. You can learn more about it here.

As a member of the Youth Commission, Orsak will assist with “reviewing and evaluating, from a youth perspective, the youth-related programs provided and funded by the City of Dallas; making recommendations to the City Council regarding those current programs; and providing a forum for the youth of our community to voice concerns regarding youth-related issues” according to the city. She’ll, of course, represent District 13.
