A unique effort to bring together those in the early stages of dementia and their caregivers will take place at the Meadows Museum at SMU this Friday from 10:30 a.m. to noon. The low-key social gathering includes refreshments and a chance to explore the extensive collection of art. There is no cost to attend, but registration is requested by contacting Carmen Smith or calling 214.768.4677.

Kids might not be ready, but it’s time to go back to school. NorthPark Center will mark the occasion this Saturday with a slew of events from 10:30 a.m.-3 p.m., including crafts, story time and dance lessons and performances. A crew of fashionistas like Cynthia Smoot of “Oh So Cynthia” and WFAA’s Alexa Conomos will offer commentary on “The A-B-C’s of Back-to-School Style” at 11:30 a.m. Get the full schedule here.

Want to learn about the beneficial bugs in the garden? North Haven Gardens is hosting a lecture by Felicia English of Blue Label Farms in Wylie, Texas, who has a degree in horticulture from Stephen F. Austin State University. You’ll see live insects and learn how they can assist in pest control. The event is from 9:30-10:30 a.m. this Saturday and there is no cost to attend, but registration is required.

Need a new hobby? Dallas Dodgeball will host DodgeCon 2016, a daylong introduction to the sport, for a chance to learn about the game and meet local players. This Saturday at the Walnut Hill Recreation Center, the day begins at noon with a one-on-one showdown — those who want to participate will put their name in a hat to be matched against another player. From 1-5 p.m., tournament play will take place. Don’t worry if you’re having flashbacks to the sting of rubber dodgeballs in P.E., the leagues uses foam balls for comfort and safety.
