Steel City Pop’s Casa Linda location.

One of Dallas’ most beloved ice pop producers is coming to the neighborhood, replacing one ice cream joint with a modern take on gourmet frozen treats. Steel City Pops will open its third Dallas location this October at the Preston Royal retail center at 6025 Royal Lane.

What used to house a Baskin Robbins will soon be home to the popular ice pop shop (fun fact: Popsicle is a trademarked term, all others are ice pops, kind of like Kleenex and tissues). The Alabama-based company opened its first Dallas location in 2014 on Lower Greenville, and the crowds swarmed for the unique ice pop flavors like blood orange and buttermilk. The line snaked around the block, showing the demand was there for a second Steel City Pops location, which opened in Casa Linda last year.

Soon, we’ll have our own sweet version of the business that was started by a dad, Jim Watkins, in 2012. It now has 14 locations in three states.
