The first Jewish congregation in northern Texas has received a facelift.

Preston Hollow’s Temple Emanu-El, 8500 Hillcrest Avenue, underwent an extensive expansion and renovation project as part of a $38 million capital campaign. Local architect Gary Cunningham and the Beck Group oversaw the improvements.

The synagogue was expanded to include the Stern Chapel, with seating for more than 500 people, along with a two-story addition for offices, an Early Childhood Education Center wing and a gathering space.

The campaign also raised funds to revamp the synagogue’s Olan Sanctuary and the Tobian Auditorium social hall.

While Preston Hollow residents have come to the synagogue since the 1870s to worship at Emanu-El, its current temple was built in 1957. The synagogue has since become one of the largest in North America.
