Kramer Elementary in our neighborhood is among the “most distinct” in the state, according to the Texas Education Agency (TEA), which unveiled its 2016 accountability reports last week.

TEA rates public schools across the state according to how their students’ perform on state-mandated tests, better known as STAAR exams. The state not only decrees whether a school “met standard” but also whether it earned any distinctions in several categories. Kramer was among 17 DISD schools that earned all eligible distinctions and one of only eight non-magnet/specialty schools.

A few neighborhood highlights from this year’s results:

• Kramer, one of several neighborhood schools on track to become an official International Baccalaureate campus, is the only Preston Hollow or North Dallas school to earn full marks this year, but several came close. Walnut Hill and Withers, two other non-magnet elementary campuses, were just one distinction shy, and both have historically high ratings.

• Hillcrest High School had the best showing among our neighborhood’s high schools with six of seven distinctions. In 2015 it earned all seven.

• Popular Preston Hollow magnet school Dealey Montessori and its middle school, Dealey International Academy, also came up slightly short of full marks this year, though both have performed well in the past.
