One of Dallas’ best contemporary dance companies soon will show their skills at Preston Hollow’s Edgemere retirement community.

Because of a $600 grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts, the Bruce Wood Dance Project is scheduled to perform at Edgemere on Oct. 18. “I think it will be a really enjoyable and rewarding and engaging evening for our residents,” Lifestyles Director Ashley Wessel says.

The Bruce Wood Dance Project is known for their high-caliber performances, which is why Wessel applied for the grant for the critically-acclaimed dance troupe to perform. She says it’s important that residents have access to the same level of entertainment that was available before they retired, whether it is music performances or professional speakers. “One of our goals is to still be able to provide meaning and purpose for residents in their retirement years,” she says.

This is not only the first time that the dance troupe has performed at Edgemere but also the first time Edgemere has applied for a grant from the Texas Commission on the Arts. “Their price can be up there, and with the help of this grant, we’re able to bring them here to perform for our residents,” Wessel says. “I’m really grateful for the grant and really excited we were accepted.”

The Texas Commission on the Arts funded 974 grants totaling more than $7 million across the state.
