Preston Hollow neighbor Lisa Marais recently launched Purechild clothing, an organic clothing brand.

Preston Hollow neighbor Lisa Marais has no fashion industry experience, but that didn’t stop her from launching her own clothing line.

The full-time business advisor and mother to a now 2-year-old boy was frustrated with the high cost of children’s organic clothing. When she could not find a United States-based brand that fit into her budget, she created one herself.

Launched in mid-August, Purechild clothing offers outfits made with organic cotton and elastane in sizes newborn-24 months. The cost of the clothing ranges from $10-$35.

Marais did not want the “normal baby clothing shop,” she says, so none of the outfits are baby blue and pink, and there are no frills or lace that could be uncomfortable for kids.

“I spent the most time ensuring the fabric and the blend of fabric was to the quality I needed,” she says. “If I don’t want to put my own kid in it, I definitely don’t want to put someone else’s kid in it.”

Because she had no background in fashion, Marais had to research fabric, fashion trends, and the rules and regulations of opening the business. Purechild clothing only is available online now, but she eventually hopes to expand the brand to retail stores.

“It’s lucky when you’re passionate about something, it happens a little bit easier,” she says. “We started in November last year and was able to launch in mid-August.  It’s been a 10-month journey, but we’re really excited.”
