On Wednesday at 6:30 a.m., Jorge Ruiz was arrested by the police with assistance from the North Texas Fugitive Task Force. Ruiz, who has no prior arrests, was taken to Lew Sterrett Jail with bail set at $100,000.

During a press conference that evening, Dallas Police Department Assistant Chief Christina Smith said the assault happened roughly eight years ago, and the victim was a female student who was about 7 years old.

A second victim came forward during the investigation, and Ruiz also was charged with indecency with child by contact, a Class 2 felony, Smith said.

Both were former students of Ruiz.

The investigation is ongoing. According to Fox4News, Ruiz also is being investigated for a third sexual assault in Plano.

A statement from DISD spokeswoman Robyn Harris reads: “This is a very serious matter. While we are unable to comment on this personnel issue involving a teacher, we can share that the individual has been placed on administrative leave. We will continue to cooperate with authorities, and remain committed to providing a safe instructional environment for our students each day.”

Kimberly Sloan is the former Kramer Elementary PTA president and interacted with Ruiz regularly when organizing PTA functions and school-wide events. She says she was shocked to hear the allegations.

“It would be tragic and hard for any school, any community, any family,” she says.

The Dallas Police Department requests that anyone with information related to the crime should contact Detective Mayfield at 214.275.1300.

It marks the second time in as many months that a man working locally with young girls has been arrested for sexual abuse. In August, Jewish Community Center personal trainer Randy Lee Adrian, 24, was arrested for sexually assaulting a 16-year-old girl.

It was updated again Monday, Oct. 10 with information from Fox4News and a statement from former Kramer PTA president Kimberly Sloan.
