The Episcopal School of Dallas is hosting its first film festival Friday evening. Independent high school students from across Dallas submitted short films, which will be judged by actress Carolyn McCormick, Dallas County Community College film professor Andy Chiles and Dallas film critic Gary Cogill. The reception begins at the school’s Merrell Road campus , where fourth-grader Colin Koch and ninth-grader Brooks Butler will DJ from 5-6 p.m.  Film screenings then are scheduled from 6-9:30 p.m. Visit here to learn more about the festival or RSVP.

Grab a yoga mat and bring the kiddos to Bookmarks at NorthPark Center for Kid Yoga Friday at 10:30 a.m. Yoga instructor Stephanie Spett will guide children through yoga breathing, stretching, story and shavasana.

Stop by SMU’s Pollock Gallery  this weekend to see The Triple Carbs Society for the last time. Berlin-based artist Marco Bruzzone integrated the concepts of middle-class America, minimalist art and, oddly enough, pasta into one exhibition. It’s open Friday and Saturday from 11 a.m.-5 p.m., and attendees will receive pasta at lunchtime. Learn more about the unconventional exhibition here.

The Dealey Montessori and International Academy’s Fall Carnival this Saturday from 1-5 p.m. features horse rides, train rides and a rock climbing wall. While you explore the carnival, peruse garden crafts from Northaven Gardens and arts crafts from Studio Bella. If you’re craving a snack or need to satisfy your sweet tooth, Steel City Pops, concessions and a bake sale also will be available. Wristbands, which provide unlimited access to rides and games, cost $25 for the first band and $15 for each additional bands. Proceeds benefit Dealey’s PTA and will fund class garden maintenance, field trips, extracurricular scholarships and teacher conferences. Get all the details here.
