With Thanksgiving only a few weeks away, tis the season to participate in food drives or volunteer for local nonprofits. Generosity often is at an all-time high during the holidays, when people prioritize taking time out of their busy schedules to help those facing hardships.

For some, though, making a difference isn’t exclusive to the holidays. It’s a part of their everyday routines, and empathy is inherent to their personalities.
In 2011, the Advocate interviewed several neighborhood seniors who dedicated their lives to volunteering, whether that be in our neighborhood or overseas.
