Hillcrest is one of 31 Dallas ISD schools receiving facility improvements in the 2015 bond program’s first phase, and district officials are seeking the community’s feedback about the renovations.

Bond program architects and project managers are collecting input from parents and neighbors at a public meeting, scheduled from 6-7 p.m. Tuesday at Hillcrest. (Get all the details here.)

Voters approved a $1.6 billion bond program in November 2015, which will fund repairs, additions and new schools. With an average age of 47, many DISD campuses are in need. In 2013, the district commissioned a Facility Condition Assessment report. Often called the Parsons report, the assessment ranks the condition of schools as good, fair or poor using a comparative benchmark that analyzes current and future needs.

When the report was released, 21 high schools required rehabilitation.

Hillcrest’s original 1930 wing will be replaced, 32 classrooms will be added, its cafeteria, science labs and auditorium will be upgraded, and a new gym and locker rooms will be constructed, among a number of other renovations.

Franklin Middle School, Dealey Montessori, Gooch Elementary, W.T. White High School and Withers Elementary are among the Preston Hollow schools included in the bond program.
