Northaven Trail is one step closer to connecting with White Rock Creek Trail.

The City of Dallas has acquired land at 11231 N. Central Expressway, near Northaven Road, to construct an on-ramp and bridge over U.S. 75.

Funded by Dallas County, the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT), the pedestrian and bike-friendly bridge allows the two trails to merge.

Obtaining the land has been the project’s largest hurdle, says City Councilman Lee Kleinman. The NCTCOG would not provide funding for the bridge until its access points were established.

“Acquiring the land was the key piece to the project moving forward,” says Jeff Kitner, president of Friends of Northaven Trail.

The bridge should be completely designed by the end of 2017, Kleinman and Kitner say.
