Get to know Sylvia Benenson, local representative of the City of Dallas’ Senior Affairs Commission, at the Preston Royal Library on Thursday, May 4, at 5:30 p.m. Benenson will review services geared toward seniors that the city offers and listen to feedback about what else is needed.

Hillcrest High School

For nearly eight decades, Hillcrest High School students have gathered or competed in the “boy’s gym,” but now it’s being replaced as part of the 2015 bond program. Bid the original gym farewell during a pep rally Saturday, May 6, at 10:30 a.m. Students, parents and alumni, including Hillcrest’s Class of 1955, decked out in Panthers garb can watch the band, panaders and cheerleaders perform in the space one last time. The event is open to the public.

Not everyone is born with a green thumb, so North Haven Gardens is hosting Texas Smartscape Plants Day on Saturday from 9 a.m.- 6 p.m.  Attendees will learn which native and adaptive plants are best suited for North Texas. Learn more about the free class here.
