School news: Lamplighter and Alcuin launch new facilities

The Lamplighter School launched its roughly 10,000-square-foot Innovation Lab, designed by architect Marlon Blackwell, to encourage hands-on activities for students. A teaching kitchen, environmental science area, robotics lab and woodworking classroom are located inside the lab.

Alcuin School recently opened its new world languages and fine arts building. The multi-level facility features foreign language classrooms, art studios, music education spaces and a patio balcony.

A new Texas law, HB 367, allows school employees to distribute free leftover food to hungry children. Extra cafeteria meals and produce are included in the legislation, which took effect Sept. 1.
