A newborn baby was abandoned at a gas station near Preston and Royal this weekend.

The infant was found Saturday, Sept. 16, inside a restroom trash can at 7-Eleven, 10804 Preston Road.

The Dallas Police Department arrived after 1:30 p.m. and took the baby, who is healthy, to the hospital. Her umbilical cord was attached, but police aren’t sure where she was born.

Police canvassed the area and are reviewing the gas station’s footage. Anyone with information is asked to call Detective Burgess at 214.275.1325.

The 7-Eleven is less than a quarter mile away from Fire Station No. 41, a designated “Safe Haven” for parents to leave babies they can’t care for anymore.

We will continue to update this post as we receive more information.
