Sallio Bistro reinvents itself in Uptown

Mediterranean cuisine was new territory for Larry and Karen Williams when they opened Sallio Bistro.

“We knew we were going to be that good neighborhood bistro — the salt of the earth — but we didn’t know what the hell we were cooking,” Karen told the Advocate in 2016.

A book, titled “Salt Block Cooking,” became the inspiration for the upscale eatery’s menu. The co-owners of Amberjax Fish Market Grille were novices to cooking with Himalayan salt blocks, but Sallio Bistro thrived so much that the couple is launching Sallio Italio in Uptown this fall.

“We’re going to split the menu between dishes from Northern and Southern Italy, with seafood and tomatoes and olives,” Karen told CultureMap. “You know how much Larry likes fish.”

Arepa TX comes to Preston Royal

Frisco-based Arepa TX is slated to open its doors Sept. 28 at Preston Royal, where Natalie’s once was housed. The Latin American restaurant at 5940 Royal Lane will serve Venezuelan-style arepas, which are corn cakes stuffed with vegetables, meats, fish and sauce.

Eatzi’s and Shake Shack are preparing to move into the shopping center, too. Eatzi’s is expected to open in October, while it’s still unclear when Shake Shack will start serving burgers and milkshakes in the neighborhood.

Restaurant openings near the neighborhood

Just north of Preston Hollow, near the Galleria, Kuai Asian Kitchen is launching its third location for customers to satisfy their dumpling cravings. Beloved steakhouse Al Biernat’s also is introducing itself to North Dallas in mid-October.
