What he’s up to now:
After working for the Obama administration in the Department of Housing and Urban Development, this former NFL player is diving into politics himself. The Tennessee Titan- turned-civil rights attorney is campaigning for Texas’ 32nd congressional district. Allred is one of five Democratic candidates looking to challenge incumbent Pete Sessions in the 2018 midterm election.

Three things to know:
1. Allred was a backup linebacker and special teams player in the NFL for four seasons. He misses his teammates’ nonstop jokes, but being a professional athlete wasn’t all that glamourous. “Especially if you are walking next to the quarterback, you realize quickly people are more interested in him than you,” he says.

2. The self-proclaimed nerd launched a computer repair business at Baylor. “For me, doing computer stuff was a good way to calm down after a busy day at football,” he says.

3. Allred’s love of superheroes, especially Spiderman, never faded. He still sees Marvel and DC movies the night that they premiere and is a religious reader of comic books.
