Janet Kafka’s affinity for Spanish culture began as an exchange student at the University of Madrid, and it’s infiltrated every aspect of her life.

Her Glendora Avenue home is based on the country’s architecture. She’s served as the honorary consul of Spain since 1997 and has helped the Meadows Museum acquire the most comprehensive Spanish art collection in the United States.

As a way to say thank you, the museum has added Salvador Dali’s “Aliyah” to its collection in her honor. The 25 color lithographs were commissioned to celebrate the founding of Israel.

It’s one of the few complete sets in the series that still are in existence.
