Lisa Loeb

Before Lisa Loeb became the only unsigned artist to hit No. 1, she was a Hockaday student who spent her free time at St. Mark’s.

“They had a radio station that I loved listening to, so I asked if I could be one of the DJs, and they let me do that,” she told the Advocate. “My friends and I sometimes interviewed bands. I was bringing huge crates of record albums from my own collection. At the time, you couldn’t bring your iPod.”

Loeb’s break-up anthem “Stay” put her on the charts in 1995. After years of quietly making music, she resurfaced with a reality show. If you’re curious to know what she’s been up to since then, revisit this story from 2015.
