More than 2,800 Northwest Dallas residents are without hot water or heat during the gas outage.

Atmos Energy is offering households $1,200 each to help cover the cost of hotel rooms. Residents can receive financial assistance at Bachman or Walnut Hill recreation centers, as long as they provide a photo ID or proof of residence.

The Town North Family YMCA is offering showers to families without hot water during the gas outage, too.

Neighbors were alarmed after Atmos was spotted working outside of the outage area, something Councilwoman Jennifer Staubach Gates addressed Monday in an email to residents.

“My office continues to hear about Atmos working in D13 outside the outage area. I have requested a stronger communication mechanism form Atmos so residents can have a better understanding of what work is being done in their neighborhood. Included below is the latest update from Atmos as well as the explanation of how they established the outage boundaries.

“According to Atmos staff, the parameters of the outage zone was established based on a unique combination of many factors including system characteristics, geological contact, soil condition, record-setting rainfall and the effect these and other factors had on the performance of our system in that area.

“Atmos will continue to conduct scheduled leak assessments throughout the natural gas distribution system, and will follow their established procedures for any needed repairs.”
