Crystal Yates is a country singer-songwriter from McKinney. She performs April 20 at 8 at Uncle Calvins. She was listening to a sermon at Cross Timbers Church in Argyle when she had a musical epiphany. “Stop trying to separate the secular and sacred by treating everything as sacred,” implored the pastor. It’s had a profound effect on how she approached her music — country, spiritual or otherwise. Tickets are $15 and $18.

Author Lawrence Wright will talk about his new book “God Save Texas” April 19 at 7 p.m. at Interabang Books.  NPR’s Terry Gross said the book is a reflection on his home state, its natural beauty, its racial and ethnic diversity, its music and its political culture, characterized by a strong rightward tilt and a cast of characters so colorful Wright says they’re a journalist’s dream.
