Max Marshall has a riveting account of his friendship with musician Steve Miller in the June issue of Texas Monthly. The friendship started when Marshall was 13. The two attended St. Mark’s decades apart and “Mr. Steve,” as Marshall called him, mentored him — even inviting him to play on stage. “Why would anyone who has sold tens of millions of albums remember to email a fourteen-year-old bar mitzvah guitarist,” Marshall writes. Apparently, Miller loves pulling St. Mark’s students and teachers on stage. Timothy Mank recalls when it happened to him. St. Mark’s alum Box Scaggs also played with Miller when they were students. Miller plays at the Allen Event Center July 27.
