Presidential Libraries in Texas Salute the Military with Free Admission

The George W. Bush Presidential Library & Museum is a member of the Blue Star Museums program, offering free admission
to military personnel and their families this summer through Labor Day, 9 a.m.-5 p.m. Participating in this summer’s Blue Star Museums program are active duty military personnel, National Guard and Reserve, and their families from Memorial Day through Labor Day 2018.

Beer Smackdown

Which goes best with cheese, wine or beer? Classes are August 29, 7-9 p.m. and cost $40. Each of the five rounds consists of one cheese, one wine, and one beer. Expect voting and a winner. Classes may be purchased online at scardellocheese.com.

North Haven Gardens: Learn to Grow Orchids

Members of the North Texas Orchid Society will be available to lend their expertise to your orchid growing questions at the free Orchids 101 meeting Sunday, Sept. 2. Orchids 101 will be held in the tropical greenhouse at North Haven Gardens, 7700 Northaven Road.

Winner of the 2018 Pulitzer Prize for Non-Fiction

James Former Jr., winner of the 2018  Pulitzer Prize for Non-Fiction, will speak about his book “Locking Up Our Own: Crime and Punishment in Black America” Sept 6 at 7 p.m. at Interabang Book Club. A former public defender, Forman is a leading critic of mass incarceration and its impact on people of color. Interabang is at 10720 Preston Road.
