Can-do Kaki Hopkins, a Preston Hollow neighbor, will receive an Outstanding Volunteer Fundraiser Award at Dallas’ National Philanthropy Day Luncheon on Nov. 9. The annual luncheon, hosted by the Greater Dallas Chapter of Association of Fundraising Professionals, honors Dallas’ most outstanding philanthropists and volunteers.
We profiled Hopkins recently. For almost 40 years, she has volunteered for more than 14 organizations. She’s even been photographed with Martha Stewart.
Nominated by the Dallas Arboretum and Botanical Garden, Hopkins raised millions of dollars for fundraising events as well as membership drives and campaigns. Organizations that have benefited from her leadership and support also include the Dallas County Medical Society, Dallas Opera, Dallas Theater Center, Les Femmes Du Monde, Leukemia Texas, TACA, Vickery Meadow Learning Center (now called Literacy Achieves) and WRR’s Board of Friends.
In an interview with the Preston Hollow Advocate magazine, she reflected on her past. Hopkins has a master’s degree in theater, has a dance and sales background and worked at the Dallas Theater Center as an actor. When asked what advice she would give to her younger self, she said “I was studying mathematics as well as theater, and I was having trouble figuring out which path to take. I would say to myself, ‘You’re doing well with that choice.’ I would also say cherish every new friend that you meet.”
