Ursuline Academy of Dallas’ former teacher, archivist and athletics booster Sister Mary Margaret Prenger died April 9.

Prenger, 96, died at Our Lady of Wisdom Healthcare Center in New Orleans, the same city she was born in on March 11, 1923. She moved to the healthcare center in 2014 after retiring in 2008 from the Ursuline Academy of Dallas.

During her 18 years at Ursuline, Prenger taught religion, served as archivist and was a booster for athletics. She attended all home games with her teddy bear, which is still on campus, according to her obituary.

Prenger was an alumna of Ursuline Academy of New Orleans and Ursuline College. She entered the Ursuline Sisters in July 1942 and made her vows in January 1945. She also obtained a bachelor of arts degree at the College of New Rochelle in New York and master’s degrees from St. Mary’s School of Theology, Notre Dame, Indiana and Loyola University.

In addition to her tenure in Dallas, Prenger served as teacher, principal and secretary for Ursuline Central Province of the United States; as a member of the secretarial staff at Ursuline Generalate in Rome, Italy; and as a teacher and high school principal at the Ursuline Academy of New Orleans.

Services will be held April 13 in New Orleans. Prenger will be honored on Aug. 4 at the Ursuline Academy of Dallas Alumnae Memorial Mass.
