UPDATE: Allred may not play tonight due to a calf strain.

Dallas Representative Colin Allred is not just a force in the political arena. The Hillcrest High School alum is also making impressions on the baseball field, according to The Dallas Morning News.

On Wednesday, Allred will lead fellow Democrats in the Congressional Baseball Game. The Congressional Baseball Game has been a tradition since 1909 and has been an annual, bipartisan event meant to inspire friendly competition and serve as a fundraiser for charity.

The former football star has been a formidable figure in practice, shagging flies and scooping up bloopers like a total pro. The Representative is thrilled to play, as baseball was his first love. Before putting on his NFL  uniform, Allred played baseball and received multiple honors  for the sport during his time at Hillcrest High. However, his 6’1″ body filled out, and it was clear that he was meant to play football.

Allred says that baseball was his favorite sport growing up and, of course, his favorite team was the Texas Rangers. The Democrat was apparently a mega-fan of the team, knowing every player and every number by heart.

Pennsylvania Rep. Mike Doyle, the team’s manager, told The Dallas Morning News, “He is in a league of his own.”
