Ursuline Academy alumna and current University of Texas at Austin senior Julie DeLaRosa plans to ride a bike for 70 days to Anchorage, Alaska. All to fight cancer.
DeLaRosa is part of Texas4000, an organization at UT-Austin that aims to engage communities in the fight against cancer. It also organizes the longest charity bike ride: more than 4,000 miles in length from Austin to Anchorage, according to the organization’s website.
This year’s ride is set to end Aug. 9 with a celebration called the Anchorage Finish Line Festival.
During her 18-month long program with Texas4000, DeLaRosa raised money, volunteered in the community and planned the 4,000-mile bike ride, Preston Hollow People reported.
“One of the biggest reasons we get on the bike every morning and continue to peddle even when the hills seem like they will never end is to spread hope that there will be a cure for cancer,” DeLaRosa told Preston Hollow People.
