U.S. Rep. Colin Allred, a Hillcrest High alum, plans to demonstrate bipartisanship with a Republican counterpart from Ohio during a time when Congress is severely divided, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Allred will take a trip to Rep. Anthony Golzalez’s district next week and Gonzalez will visit Dallas in the fall. While the two are in Ohio, they plan to attend the preseason NFL Hall of Game, host a joint town hall meeting, tour a local business and have lunch at a local brewery, the Morning News reported.

“We have different backgrounds [and] different ideologies, but we should — and I think we do — share a common goal around what’s best for the country,” Allred told the Morning News

“It’s important that we model to people what it looks like to disagree, but do it in a way that’s civil and productive,” Gonzalez told the Morning News.

The two are relying on their shared history in the NFL to help demonstrate this bipartisanship.

Allred, who graduated from Hillcrest High in Preston Hollow, played linebacker at Baylor University before signing with the Tennessee Titans in 2006 and playing for five seasons. Gonzalez, meanwhile, played for Ohio State University and was a first-round draft pick of the Indianapolis Colts in 2007. He played for five seasons.

Both men ended their football careers due to injuries.
