St. Marks almost-alumni Owen Wilson is spending the summer on the coast of Croatia, filming his latest movie Bliss, a sci-fi drama with Salma Hayek. Wilson portrays a recently divorced man whose life is falling apart when he meets Hayek’s character, a woman who lives on the streets and is convinced that the polluted, broken world around them is not real.
The filming process has allowed for Wilson to learn more about the country, with a local magazine called Croatia Week reporting that the Dallas native is demonstrating his signature charm to the locals. “Wilson has been leaving a good impression around the country with those having contact with him saying he was ‘extremely friendly’ and happy to take time to say hello and pose for photos. By all accounts he has been enjoying his time around Croatia and this week he was in Opatija”.
The actor reportedly stayed dined at a high-end hotel called the Hotel Navis in Opatija, a town on the coast of Croatia. The hotel owner spoke to Croatia Week, sharing “The man is extremely polite, not at all arrogant, and speaks with that sweet, distinctive Texan accent. I only regret that we did not manage to serve him our tasting menu.”
