Neighbors know they can always go to NorthPark Center to see and be seen, but now we can go to check out the world scene.

A temporary art installation called “The Portal: Connecting Dallas To The World” is an “immersive audiovisual space” that allows us to interact with folks around the world live and face-to-face.

Step into what looks like a golden storage container and you’ll be able to see and talk to people in 40 other portals in sites such as Afghanistan, Honduras, Iraq, Jordan, Germany, Rwanda and Mexico. Every Portal is staffed by a person who helps facilitate dialogue and provides language interpretation.

Check what world citizens are saying about it on social media.
Portals are what happen when we are intentional about building a social network. They embody the mission of Shared_Studios: to give people everywhere a chance to tell their own story, to explore the diversity of human experience, to connect people separated by distance and difference in encounters that are humanizing and real.

The free installation, hosted by Shared_Studios in Macy’s Court on NorthPark’s first floor, runs now through September 25 and is open Thursdays, 4-7 p.m.; Fridays, 4-7 p.m.; Saturdays 12-7 p.m.; and Sundays 12-5 p.m.
