Welcome back to another school year! It is always an exciting time because it brings new learning adventures for students and staff. We’re eager to see all our Dallas ISD families on Monday, Aug. 19!

This is the time of the year when educators have another chance to create new opportunities to help students put learning in motion, aim higher and rise to greater heights! I proudly can say that Dallas ISD educators go above and beyond and dedicate their focus to students year-round to help them navigate new experiences.

This is also a new adventure for parents, as they get to see their child grow in new academic challenges and learn more skills. Parents, you are the first teachers of your children. I encourage you to stay involved in school activities to show support to your child because this will make a positive impact not only on academic achievement but also on social and emotional development. Thank you for your continued support of Dallas ISD.

In other news, Dallas ISD is now offering scholarships to expand the number of 3- and 4-year-olds eligible to attend pre-K at no cost. If you have a pre-K age child, or know someone who does, call 214-932-7735 or visit www.prekdallas.org for additional information and to apply.

Also, to help your school year get off to the right start, the district’s Back to School hotline will be available the entire first week of school at 972-925-5437. Bilingual representatives will be answering questions about transportation, enrollment, school hours, immunizations, and more.

Last but not least, I’d like to welcome a few new principals to the District 1 family:

  • Kermange Johnson at Tom C. Gooch Elementary
  • Oscar Spurlock at Jerry R. Junkins Elementary
  • Lourdes Morales-Figueroa at John J. Pershing Elementary

Wishing each one of them and the rest of the administrators from District 1 a great new school year.

Parents, thank you for choosing Dallas ISD for your child. See you Monday, Aug. 19. It’s time to get ready, set and rise! Have a great 2019-2020 school year!
