SMU STUDENT MOVE-IN DAY IS THURSDAY, AUG. 22

SMU student move-in day is Thursday, Aug. 22. This means, about 1,200 first-year students along with their parents and siblings will be unloading massive amount of clothing, bedding, mini-fridges and other needed stuff into the residential commons. This means mega traffic between 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Also: so much drama between family members (tears, fears, love, yelling).

After first-year students move in on Thursday, they will spread out across the city to “Discover Dallas” Friday afternoon. Students will gather at 11 a.m. Saturday on the Dallas Hall lawn for the Class of 2023 group photo and classes begin Monday, Aug.  26.

Here are reasons to return to SMU in the meantime:

  • Goya’s “Visions in Ink: The Centerpiece of the Meadows Drawings Collection,” at the Meadows Museum, through Nov. 3. More info here.
  • “Presidential Retreats: Away from the White House,” at the George W. Bush Presidential Center, through Oct. 6. More info here.
  • Sept. 6: Celebrate the dedication of the Indoor Performance Center at 7 p.m. Tour the newest facility resource for the entire campus, featuring Armstrong Fieldhouse, an indoor turf field, and more. More info here.
  • “El Greco, Goya, and a Taste for Spain: Highlights from the Bowes Museum at the Meadows Museum, Sept. 15-Jan. 20, 2020.  More info here.
