Mia Barnett, a student at Dallas Lutheran, won two awards in the State Fair of Texas’ Creative Arts Competition.

She won second place in the “Junior Oil, Acrylic, Pastel” and the “Junior Charcoal or Pencil” competition.

Barnett also creates charcoal drawings and acrylic paintings of pets.

“I was always amazed by how sparkly their eyes are in the sun and the way their fur sweeps across their body,” she says.

A charcoal work on black paper won her first in state at the Texas Association of Private and Parochial Schools. Barnett hopes to attend Savannah College of Art and Design.
