Dallas Morning News sports reporter Joseph Hoyt reported that Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas started the season with two losses, then Jesuit won three games in a row. He noted that E.J. Smith, the 2017 Dallas Morning News Newcomer of the Year, the top-ranked running back in SportsDayHS’ top 100 and the son of Hall of Fame running back Emmitt Smith, had been injured.

Hoyt also noted these standouts:

  • Junior Jake Taylor is the team’s leading rusher with 76 carries for 392 yards and a touchdown. He’s also the leading pass-catcher with 21 receptions for 168 yards and a touchdown.
  • Wyatt Garrett and Jonathan Paredes have combined for 27 catches, 402 yards and six touchdowns.
  • Senior quarterback Rance Holman earned the starting quarterback job late last season after starting the year as a junior on the junior varsity. He’s now thriving.
