Dallas Morning News columnist Sharon Grigsby wrote movingly today about Michelle Staubach Grimes’ struggle with mental illness. Grimes, daughter of Cowboys legend Roger Staubach and an Ursuline graduate, went to law school and wrote two children’s books (“Where is Pidge?” and “Pidge Takes the Stage”). She lives in Dallas with her husband, and she has three children and two dogs. Pidge was her mother’s nickname as a child. Grimes is going public to try to remove the stigma of mental illness. Grimes tried electroconvulsive therapy to relieve her depression and anxiety. She says her father’s words got her through dark times in her life. At one point Staubach told her, “There is nothing you can ever do that would make me stop loving you.” Grimes’ message to parents is to love kids unconditionally. Read Grigsby’s story here.
