Back in the day, Sanger-Harris stores were the epicenter of luxury. The buildings were known for their architecture and the merchandise attracted well-heeled clients. There were multiple locations in Dallas, but this September 1962 video from the WFAA archives shows the Sanger-Harris Preston Center remodel, thanks to the SMU Jones Film and WFAA archives. Check out the models, the fashion and the chic interior.

Sanger-Harris represented Dallas in the department store business for more than 100 years. Sanger-Harris began as two separate and competing firms: Sanger Brothers and A. Harris and Co. On Feb. 6, 1961, a merger created Sanger-Harris Department Stores, Inc. In 1988, the name was changed to Foley’s and a century of tradition ended.
