Neighbor Eve Wiley traveled to Florida to testify at Florida Senator Lauren Book‘s bill seeking to increase fertility clinic regulation Feb. 18. The bill received unanimous support from the Senate Criminal Justice Committee, according to Floridapolitics.com. Book’s bill (SB 698) would make it a crime for a fertility clinic doctor to inseminate a woman with a person’s genetic material without her knowledge. Tuesday’s hearing was the second stop for the bill, which has been approved in the Florida Senate Judiciary Committee. Rep. Evan Jenne is hosting the Florida House version of the bill (HB 1287)according to Floridapolitics.com.

Eve Wiley, who was an Advocate Fierce Female, found out she was conceived via artificial insemination at the age of 16. Now 33, Wiley knows that fertility doctor impregnated her mother to conceive her.

Wiley advocated for Texas to adopt more stringent laws. “I am asking you guys to please vote in favor of this bill,” Wiley said during her speech to the Senate. “Give these victims a voice because I am here to tell you the pain that this has caused my family, the disruption in genetic identity — I am 33 years old starting over for the third time in my life — this is not ok. Please be their voice.”
