Ursuline Academy has a cool tradition: when students turn 18, the school helps them register to vote and celebrates the rite of passage. Early voting for the March 3 election started this week. Here’s what to know about voting in the primaries. Registered voters in Dallas County can cast ballots at any polling location during early voting, which ends Feb. 28. Check your voting status and find a location via the Texas Secretary of State or Dallas County.

Also, thank goodness for the Texas Tribune, where it’s easy to look up your ballot.

Ursuline history teacher Olivia Ide discusses the history of voting in her junior-level classes. They are also encouraged to reach out to their state or national Congress person regarding an issue of importance to them. “It is so important to vote,” Ms. Ide says. “You are helping to select someone who will influence the issues that get attention and the path the country is on both nationally and globally.”
