Preston Hollow neighbor and football legend Roger Staubach was interviewed by his son, Jeff, in front of a crowd at the PwC SMU Athletic Forum Monday, March 9. Now 78, former Cowboys quarterback Staubach has won two Lombardi Trophies and a Heisman. Here are highlights of the interview, according to the Dallas Morning News:

  • What are his favorite awards (including the Presidential Medal of Freedom)? Winning the Cowboys’ first Super Bowl and beating Army when he played for Navy.
  • He’s a Dak fan. “He’s right up there with the best quarterbacks.”
  • What did he do after the Cowboys won its first Super Bowl at the end of the 1971 season? He got $15,000 for the winner’s share and a Dodge Charger for being named the Super Bowl MVP. Staubach, a father of three at the time, asked if he could trade it for a station wagon. Evidently, Johnny Carson made fun of him for it and Staubach admitted he was “a real square.”
