While you’re sheltering in place because of the coronavirus, take time to indulge in films starring brother actors Owen and Luke Wilson, who grew up in Preston Hollow and attended St. Mark’s. Their mom, photographer Laura Wilson,  still lives in Preston Hollow.

Films featuring both Luke and Owen:

  • “Bottle Rocket”: In Wes Anderson’s first feature film, Anthony (Luke Wilson) has just been released from a mental hospital, only to find his wacky friend Dignan (Owen Wilson) is determined to begin an outrageous crime spree.
  • “The Royal Tenenbaums” is a 2001 comedy-drama directed by Wes Anderson and co-written with Owen Wilson. Royal Tenenbaum and his wife Etheline had three children and then they separated. All three children are geniuses.

Films featuring Owen Wilson:

  • “Midnight in Paris”: Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) is a screenwriter and aspiring novelist, vacationing in Paris with his fiancee when he meets writers and artists from the Jazz Age.
  • “You Me and Dupree”: Newlyweds Carl and Molly are anxious to start their lives together, but the pair soon become a trio when Carl invites his jobless buddy Randy (Owen Wilson) to crash at their place.
  • “Wedding Crashers”: Jeremy (Vince Vaughn) and John (Owen Wilson) are divorce mediators who spend their free time crashing wedding receptions.
  • “Zoolander”: Male model Derek Zoolander (Ben Stiller) thinks he’s got a fourth consecutive win as Male Model of the Year in the bag. But his rival, Hansel (Owen Wilson), unexpectedly takes the crown,

  • “No Escape”: American businessman Jack Dwyer (Owen Wilson), wife Annie and their two young daughters arrive in Southeast Asia then learn they’re right in the middle of a political uprising.
  • “The Internship”: After old-school salesmen Billy (Vince Vaughn) and Nick (Owen Wilson) find themselves downsized, Billy decides that, despite their complete lack of technological savvy, they should work for Google as interns.
  • “Marley & Me”: Newlyweds John and Jenny Grogan (Owen Wilson, Jennifer Aniston) adopt Marley, an adorable yellow Labrador pup.

Films featuring Luke Wilson:

  • “Vacancy”: When David (Luke Wilson) and Amy’s (Kate Beckinsale) car breaks down, they have little choice but to spend the night at a remote hotel. The couple entertain themselves by watching low-budget slasher movies on TV — until they realize that the horrifying images they see were recorded in the room.
  • “Legally Blonde”: Elle Woods (Reese Witherspoon) wants nothing more than to be Mrs. Warner Huntington III., but she is too blonde. Elle gets into Harvard Law School and eventually falls for the lawyer guy played by Luke Wilson.
  • “Anchorman”: The film is a tongue-in-cheek take on the culture of the 1970s, particularly the new Action News format.
  • “Home Fries”: Dorian (Luke Wilson) and Angus (Jake Busey) chase down their womanizing stepfather with a helicopter, frightening him to death.
  • “Blades of Glory”: Will Ferrell and Jon Heder star as a mismatched pair of banned figure skaters who become teammates upon discovering a loophole that will allow them to compete in the sport again. Luke Wilson plays a love interest.
  • “Straight A’s”: At the behest of his mother’s ghost, an addict (Ryan Phillippe) returns to his Louisiana home, where he must confront an ex-lover (Anna Paquin) who is now married to his brother.
  • “The Family Stone”: The plot follows the Christmas holiday misadventures of the Stone family in a small New England town.
