Neighbor Holly Hickey Moore of Interior Design Studio + Fashion on Preston Road, shares these design tips for people sheltering in place:

  1. Bring the outdoors inside. Cut plants in your yard and put them in vases around your house. Forage for seeds, nuts, pretty rocks and other things that you can put in bowls. Bring potted plants inside. Open windows and doors to let the fresh air inside. Reposition your furniture so that you’re looking outside.
  2. At the end of the day tidy up. If your house is set and ready for you at the beginning of each day, it’ll give you a fresh start and you’ll stress less about how messy it is.
  3. We’re all cooking a lot more these days. Why not experiment with setting the table? Pull out your fancy dishes and set your table like you’re entertaining. Set up a Zoom dinner and challenge your friends and family to do the same. It’ll lighten the mood and you’ll get to use your beautiful dishes while staying home.
  4. Put up a gallery wall. Replace old photos in your picture frames with new ones. This could also include your kid’s artwork. Tip: When doing a gallery wall, lay it all out on the floor first. Don’t worry about the spacing. It’s Ok if the frames are spaced unevenly. My rule of thumb is 2 inches between each frame or more.
