The City of Dallas takes Pride seriously.
Our city now has its own Pride flag, designed by Tracy Nathanvongsa and unanimously approved by City Council recently. Mayor Pro Tem Adam Medrano took the lead on the project and hosted a flag-raising ceremony on City Plaza Thursday with the two other members of City Council’s gay caucus, Omar Narvaez and Chad West.
Dallas is either the first city or one of the first cities to have its own Pride flag. Medrano says he hasn’t found another city that has one.
Dallas’ Pride celebration was moved from September to June last year to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall uprising. This year’s Pride celebration, June 25-26, will be virtual.
Watching the official City of #Dallas #Pride Flag raised 4 the first time ever in front of Dallas City Hall was a moment that filled me with many emotions. As an out & proud gay man, I have always wanted all to feel welcome & accepted in our great city. #LoveIsLove #OneDallas pic.twitter.com/jyRogxvcrx
